Valori, Michele
Michele Valori was an architect who graduated in Rome in 1948. He was born in Bologna and was one of the key figures of the social housing experiments carried out under the aegis of the Unrra-Casas and INA-casa agencies during the years of the post-WWII reconstruction. These programmes brought him to work alongside architects such as Quaroni and Ridolfi. He expressed his architectural commitment, in particular, in his design of a group of multi-storey apartments situated in the Tiburtino quarter (1949/54) and in the elaboration of the La Martella Village urban plan in Matera (1952/54). Urban design became his main activity from the 1960s onwards by means of the consultancy for the drafting of Rome Master Plan. During the following decade, he worked alongside Mario Fiorentino on the long-lasting, complex and extremely controversial process relating to the plan of the Corviale social housing estate in Rome. Michele Valori’s entire archive has been donated to the MAXXI Architettura collection.
