mood guides
The mood guides offer visitors a new way of exploring the museum’s interior and exterior spaces with a selection of ad hoc music that communicates what eyes see during the visit.
A series of playlists on MAXXI’s Spotify channel collects and narrate the museum’s mood, its architecture, its significant events, and current exhibitions. From time to time, the selection is curated by music critics and recognised names in the sector for an ever closer interweaving of the different arts that find a natural meeting point at MAXXI.
Take your smartphone – at MAXXI, wherever you are – put on your favourite headphones and press play.

Summer means groove, the desire to stay out late and sway your head in time to the music. This summer’s mood guide follows the programme of #estatealMAXXI and emphasises aspects of it without wanting to be didactic. It is music designed as background music, but also not.

From Dalia Derbyshire to Laurie Anderson and Suzanne Ciani to contemporaries such as Caterina Barbieri, Kelly Lee Owens and Holly Herndon.

Without a margin, without borders. A playlist designed to accompany the journey between the various works and rooms, to follow a path, but also to stop, go back and start again. It can be taken as a flow or as a single counterpoint to the works on display. It works both ways; it’s up to you to figure out which one suits you best.
