As part of a 12-month collaboration, the MAXXI – Museo nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo – opens its doors to Swatch Art Peace Hotel, the Swatch artists residency project.
A project for creative minds, offering artists space and time to express themselves freely, develop projects, get to know new cultures and dialogue with new realities
In November 2011, in Shanghai, the Swatch Art Peace Hotel opened its doors, and artists from all over the world started to join. Since then, the Swatch artists residence has welcomed more than 400 artists from 54 countries: different cultures, disciplines, generations, for a kaleidoscope of ideas, talents, projects, dreams. Also a jumping board based on energy and creativity, towards a better, new, different world.
On display: Liu Bohao, Eva Borner, Luca Bray, Paolo Cavinato, Sandro del Pistoia, Cyril Galmiche, Anita Gratzer, Cecilia Jansson, Nici Jost, Jessie Yingying Gong, Lei Lei, Elizabeth Lo, Aniwar Mamat, Michael Maurissens, Miguel Moreno Mateos, Mujin, Caitlin Reilly, Tracey Snelling, Donal Turner.
Ten years later, and after Paris, Venice, Biel, Milano, Locarno, a new stopover is added to the journey of the exhibition project – Rome. WELCOME! 10 years of Swatch Art Peace Hotel is a call to enter the world of this project, and it tells a 10-year long story through the works of about 20 artists from 10 different countries.
An integrated part of the exhibition is the videogallery section – 6, 13 and 20 October – dedicated to the work of video artists and filmmakers who, between 2011 and 2021, were in residence at the Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai. A body of work, including animation, feature films and documentaries, invites the viewer to reflect on gender prejudice, acceptance, the human condition and the concept of identity with an experimental and innovative language. Featuring: Lei Lei, Liu Bohao, Michael Maurissens, Elizabeth Lo, Mujin and Cyril Galmiche.
