Performing the Archives.Vitality of the negative. Tribute to Claudio Abate

Spazio Incontri Internazionali d’arte – admittance free subject to availability of places

How do you read an original source?
Why is there increasingly less direct examination of original materials in favour of bibliographical or multi-media sources?

Performing the Archives is a series of events aiming at the valorization of contemporary art archives and the academic divulgation of precious historical archives, favouring a direct approach to documentary sources.

The first cycle, composed of three events, is devoted to Incontri Internazionali d’arte, the historic association based in Palazzo Taverna and founded in Rome by Graziella Lonardi Buontempo in 1970. Each event will examine, in the form of a tribute, the figure of a deceased photographer, presenting their work as the narrative thread of the story: the first opens with Claudio Abate, the great photographer of the Roman artistic avant-garde.
