“When the brain’s not thinking it’s a rock. Then as it warms up it begins to emanate living matter.” The words of Bizhan Bassiri, an Iranian living and working in Italy, on the slopes of Vesuvius when in 1975 he had this revelation from which was born the manifesto of his entire oeuvre which has in lava its generating metaphor.
Directed by Igor Molino and Francesco Matera (Italy 2018, 55’), the documentary follows the artist as he returns to his homeland after many years.
The screening will be preceded by a talk featuring the filmmakers, Bizhab Bassiri and Mario Sesti, a film critic.
