Three specials shows for 35th edition of Romaeuropa Festival

The new composition of Tempo Reale is not comprised of stringed or wind instruments, nor keyboards or percussion. Rather, Symphony Device is a concert of blenders, gramophones, televisions and other household appliances used on a daily basis, some obsolete and some brand new.
There is no intention to “recycle” underlying this live performance, which seeks rather focus on technologies and in particular on the concept of “device” underscoring much of contemporary philosophical thought. From Michel Foucault to Gilles Deleuze and Giorgio Agamben, many thinkers have dealt with this concept. In elementary terms, a ‘device’ is any instrument or system of thought able to modify the behaviour and ideas of humankind.

From this concept, the group of musicians started to investigate the way in which such objects can influence our gestures and our soundscapes. Altered or technologically modified, the sounds produced by these particular instruments are ultimately composed within a surprising and unexpected symphony.
