Environment, architecture, food landscapes: small, quiet towns set an example to urban communities

A day to reflect upon the contributions slow culture makes to reducing the negative effects of migration towards cities, which is causing overcrowding, waste of resources and social inequalities. Italian small and medium-sized towns are a global model of excellence, as they are based on community relations, cultural heritage, a balanced interaction with rural territories and food and wine authenticity. Such values have also been acknowledged by the MIBACT (Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism), which has officially defined 2017 as “Anno dei Borghi” (Year of Hamlets) and launched the Piano Strategico del Turismo (Strategic Plan for Tourism).
