Books at MAXXIPassoscuroby Massimo Ammaniti

Carlo Scarpa hall
free admission subject to availability

The story of a little, great contemporary revolution, which was part of a broader criticism towards asylum institutions.

These were the years of anti-psychiatry, years of great passions that brought Massimo Ammaniti close to professors Bollea and Basaglia, preferring research and cure to activism. Ammaniti’s first assignment to the Department of Incurable Minors at the Santa Maria della Pietà Psychiatric Hospital in Rome lasted one day. The horror of the children who were locked up there was unbearable. He returned six years later, in 1972, to give those children, who were considered incurable, a dignified life. In this book, Ammaniti connects his professional experience to his personal and family life.
