free admission subject to availability

As Antonio Spadaro explains, colour is a powerful means of communication: “It comes from the outside, from a place beyond that offers meaning to things here, to life, to objects. Colour reaches the artist who discovers it, it is the intuition of a world yet to come”.

The book Oltrecolore, presented at the MAXXI Museum for the first time, talks about four artists, protagonists of twentieth-century American art, and their path of research through colour: Edward Hopper, Mark Rothko, Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat.
