Memoriae Causa

18 October 2012, 17.00
MAXXI Auditorium – free admittance

A film and a conversation around the architecture of Carlo Scarpa. Three architects, a film critic and a director meet on the occasion of the exhibition Can architecture be poetry? Carlo Scarpa_Guido Guidi: la Tomba Brion di San Vito d’Altivole
The exhibition, organized by MAXXI Architettura becomes the cue for the presentation of the film Memoriae Causa by Riccardo De Cal.

The skilled craftsmen who assisted Carlo Scarpa in the realization of the extraordinary Brion Tomb appear in De Cal’s film and recount their story. Each has a fragment of truth to share, a story to tell. Mysterious forms emerge from the greenery of a countryside bathed in morning light. And it is that very light that guides the exploration of the Brion Tomb, illuminating the beauty and the complex symbolism inherent in every form, every function, every single device.

The projection will be followed by the architects Mario Botta, Tobia Scarpa and Guido Pietropoli and the director Riccardo De Cal, introduced by Margeherita Guccione, comparing notes on the poetic of the great master. The film critic Enrico Ghezzi will discuss the theme of the exhibition in relation to the film.
