More than 350 vintage works recount the photographer’s research during his 20 years of activity in Basilicata from the mid-1960s to the mid-1980s.

In this historical and geographical context, Mario Cresci (Chiavari, 1942) developed a personal anthropological approach ‘on the field’, actively contributing to the region’s social, urban and cultural changes. In the works on display, the interiors of dwellings, people, urban spaces, architectural elements and objects of Lucanian tradition manifest themselves to evoke a collective symbolic horizon at once archaic and contemporary.

Recurring themes in the photographic research of many authors, such as presence and absence, perception of time, and interpretation of reality, appear in Cresci’s works in a new way.
