From strength to levity, an anthological exhibition that recounts the career of an artist with great expressive capacities
Jagoda Buić, born in Split and a citizen of the world, has been invited to the Venice Biennale three times and is internationally famous for her works featured in museums throughout the world, from the Metropolitan Museum in New York to the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, from the Museum of Modern Art of Zagreb to the Stedelijk Museum of Amsterdam. The exhibition unfolds in an evocative dialogue testifying to the evolution of the artist’s career from its origins to the present, the ever-diverse materials chosen for the composition of her works lending it rhythm in an asynchronous equilibrium. The profound ties to theatre, an important chapter in her artistic life, is evident in the scenographic effect she succeeds in obtaining through the arrangement of her works: figures, columns, volumes, panels, forms frequently inspired by the sea that always dialogue or interact with the space that houses them.
Powerful and evocative textile installations, imposing compositions and collages in paper, sculptures realised with pieces of metal found in industrial dumps form a dynamic and playful balance
Opening in the presence of the artist: Wednesday 20 September, 7:00 PM
A project promoted by the Croatian Ministry of Culture, the Croatian Embassy in Italy and the City of Zagreb
