Ghirri’s Atlante, words and images

Graziella Lonardi Buontempo Hall – admittance free subject to availability of places

Atlante by Luigi Ghirri is one of the first attempts at rethinking the concept of “landscape” and interrogating the codes of its representation through photograph.

On the occasion of the focus exhibition Atlante by Luigi Ghirri, MAXXI is staging a conference with Laura Gasparini, curator of the exhibition and head of the Panizzi Library photography collection in Reggio Emilia, that will explore the historical and artistic context in which the work was created and the photographer’s experience with the Modenese conceptual artists from the late Sixties.

The Atlante will be compared to the other versions created by the artist in that period: Ghirri in fact worked intensively on this project around 1973, creating diverse editions in which the same images ate assembled in different sequences.

This event is part of the Passeggiate Fotografiche Romane
in collaboration with the municipality of Reggio Emilia and the Panizzi Library
