Democracy and its limits | Sabino Cassese conversing with Paolo Mieli

Graziella Lonardi Buontempo Hall – free entrance until full capacity

Democracy, albeit incomplete, fragile, and vulnerable, is the only way of looking at the future with confidence.

Even though the wounds inflicted by the wars and totalitarian regimes of the 20th century have been healed, the fundamental values and principles of Democracy seem to be losing their strength and meaning: witness the increasingly difficult European integration, the spread of demagogy, the protest against the elites, Brexit, and Donald Trump’s surprising election as President of the United States.
How does democracy work? How does it operate under the State? How does it interact with the other components of public authorities, both in government theory and practice? These are some of the questions that Sabino Cassese, one of the best-known Italian law experts, is going to answer during La democrazia e i suoi limiti (Democracy and its limits).
