A journey into the world and history of the world’s most famous spreadable cream.
The iconic Made in Italy product was born in a small pastry shop in Alba, Piedmont, immediately after the war. In 1946, Pietro Ferrero, a Piedmontese confectioner, created the ancestor of Nutella®, the Pasta Gianduja or Giandujot.
A few years later, wrapped in golden paper, this Gianduja chocolate loaf became a spreadable cream sold in jars under the name Supercrema. We have all known it since 1964 as Nutella®—from the combination of the English word nut (hazelnut) and the suffix ella, with a positive tone.
The exhibition opens by retracing the history of Nutella® and highlighting some key historical moments of the Ferrero Group. It then continues by taking inspiration from a large square—the site of many great marketing strategies throughout the history of Nutella®—a meeting point and gathering place where brand lovers of all times become the stars and to whom a large wallpaper by illustrator Francesca Gastone is dedicated.
