Dirigente storico dell’arte presso il Ministero per i beni e le Attività culturali, attualmente Soprintendente alle Belle Arti e Archeologia di Cagliari e Oristano, si è occupata lungamente di libro d’artista, curando mostre, libri e cataloghi sul tema. Ai libri d’artista di Maria Lai, Maura Picciau ha dedicato una mostra nel 2003 presso la Galleria Nazionale d’arte Moderna di Roma, esposizione poi replicata a Cagliari nelle sale dell’ExMa’. Autrice di numerose biografie d’artista per il dizionario Biografico Treccani, tra le quali spicca quella di Arturo Martini che della Lai fu maestro, alterna il lavoro di funzionario pubblico dedito alla tutela e al rispetto dell’art. 9 della Costituzione alla scrittura di testi critici per riviste e libri. Curatrice di mostre e di programmi culturali, studia da tempo il rapporto tra arte e paesaggio e le intersezioni tra arte e patrimonio demoetnografico; è attenta e vocata ai processi di acquisizione di beni artistici alle collezioni pubbliche e statali, così come è profondamente interessata alle problematiche del restauro.

MAXXI has organised a day of study within the framework of the exhibition dedicated to Maria Lai on the occasion of the centenary of her birth. Said event, which will be entrusted to the words of critics and intellectuals, will be aimed at deepening the artist’s complex and fascinating career and retracing her life and research by analysing the compositional and poetic processes underlying the two macro-themes that typified her work: Being and Weaving.
