Four meetings to know Ponti’s multi-faceted activities, which include architecture, design, teaching, publishing, decoration, and scenography.
The programme intends to flank the exhibition in introducing and bringing the audience closer to Ponti’s multi-faceted activities: architecture and design, teaching and publishing, decoration and scenography; a legacy that has no equal in terms of versatility, flair, and commitment. A five-lesson long path designed to outline the professional profile of a person who actively participated in the re-birth of post-war Italian design.
Gio Ponti and design. A direction for design
with Domitilla Dardi
Design is one of the disciplines on which Ponti has expressed himself the most, not only as a designer but also in the strategic role of art director. His relation with companies was often that of a director who guided their destinies by merging his skills as a designer with the company’s vision. The figure of a creative intellectual, a creator of identities, and attentive connoisseur devoid of preconceptions emerges; in other words, a contemporary art director.
Domitilla Dardi is a historian and curator of design. Since 2010 she has been the design curator for MAXXI Architettura in Rome. She is also a professor of the three-year courses and Masters at the IED – European Institute of Design in Rome.
