Critical TuesdaysEncounter with Franco Purini

MAXXI B.A.S.E. – Graziella Lonardi Buontempo Hall – admittance free subject to availability of places

The arrival of spring sees the revival of Critical Tuesdays, the seminars with the protagonists of the contemporary art scene, now in their fifth season. Following a tried and trusted formula, the guests are interviewed in public by Alberto Dambruoso and Guglielmo Gigliotti.

A celebrated Italian architect, an exponent of Neo-Rationalism and a protagonist of so-called “drawn architecture”, Franco Purini has influenced international architectural culture since the 1970s thanks to his theoretical contribution and design work. His projects are rich in references to the visionary architecture of Giovan Battista Piranesi, to the metaphysical atmosphere, to Rationalism and to the classical tradition.

In 1985, Purini was awarded the Leone di Pietra at that year’s Venice Biennale for the Accademia Bridge design and the National Institute of Architecture’s IN/Arch prize in 1991-1992 for his residential project in Naples.

In January 2015 the Milan Triannale devoted the exhibition La serie e il paradigm. Franco Purini e l’arte del disegno presso i Moderni to his work, investigating the role of manual drawing today in the digital age.
