From the Santa Cecilia Conservatory to MAXXI, the museum piazza turns to jazz
The ensemble directed by Carla Marcotulli, one of the leading voices in Europe and a teacher of jazz vocals at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory, features students from the prestigious Rome institute’s jazz courses. An attention towards the repertory of the jazz tradition and the need to strike out in the direction of experimentation give life to a project based on vocal play.
The possibilities offered by the simple, wonderful instrument that is the human voice give rise to unpredictable harmonies and improvisations, determined by the unique characteristics of each singer. The ensemble ranges from a cappella improvisations on jazz classics to extemporary vocal play, dictated by the context and the mood of the evening.
