A selection of films, documentaries and interviews to explore the creative universe of the artists in the exhibition.
Different perspectives of directors and scholars guide the spectators in discovering the life, ideas and artistic practice of the exhibition’s protagonists. The exhibition opens with the film Zaha: An Architectural Legacy, which enters the heart of the history of MAXXI and the grand architecture of Zaha Hadid. With Shaping the Future. Environments by Aleksandra Kasuba, starting with the exhibition of the same name at the National Gallery of Art in Vilnius, explores the profound bond between art and architecture in the work of Aleksandra Kasuba, then arriving in Buenos Aires with Retrato de Marta Minujín, an unconventional portrait of the artist signed by Narcisa Hirsch, a pioneer of Argentine experimental cinema.
The programme continues with three films by director Gilles Coudert that explore different declinations of Kimsooja’s work To Breathe, including an extraordinary Pipilotti Rist interview and three historical documentaries, Right Out of History: The Making of Judy Chicago’s Dinner Party, Womenhouse and Judy Chicago & the California Girls dedicated to Judy Chicago and the feminist movement of the 1970s. Closing the film screening is Sur les traces de Lygia Clark, souvenirs et évocations des ses années parisiennes, a tribute to Lygia Clark by Paola Anziché and Irene Dionisio.
