Published on the occasion of the exhibition Sebastião Salgado. Amazônia, hosted for the first time in Italy at MAXXI, the Guide documents Sebastião Salgado’s exploration of the Brazilian Amazon region over a period of more than seven years. The forest, the rivers, the mountains and the Indian communities are portrayed in the book through a careful selection of the most iconic images from among the over 200 works on show. The result is an invitation to immerse oneself in the universe of the forest, reflecting on the fragility of its ecosystem as a testimony of “what survives before even more disappears. In order for life and nature to escape further destruction and depredation.” Accompanying the iconographic apparatus, the book includes contributions by the exhibition’s curator Lélia Wanick Salgado and Salgado himself.
