Published on the occasion of the homonym exhibition at MAXXI, the volume is composed of two sections. In addition to the texts by the curators, seven authors explore from different perspectives the concept of heroism and the relationship between the individual and society within the Balkan context. The historical, anthropological and literary insights proposed offer fundamental tools to approach the study of this country. In the second part of the book, a photographic section is dedicated to the works in the exhibition, over one hundred pieces divided into eight thematic sections that document the various themes addressed: democratic freedom, gender equality, brotherhood, hope, the risk of automation processes caused by consumer society, the limitation of individual decision-making processes, the acceptance of the other and metamorphosis, understood as the consequences of human exploitation on nature.
