The guide describes MAXXI’s new contemporary art dedicated centre, a laboratory for research and experimentation housed in Palazzo Ardinghelli in L’Aquila. Particular attention is paid to the description of the restoration of the palazzo, a Baroque building constructed by the architect Francesco Fontana that suffered severe damage during the 2009 earthquake. Alongside the texts by the MAXXI’s President and the directors describing the exhibition itinerary and the museum’s mission, the guide includes descriptions of the works of art, architecture and photography and a map of the space. The iconographic apparatus combines images documenting the building destroyed by the earthquake with precious unpublished photographs by Andrea Jemolo, authored pictures that portray the building following the restoration, enhancing its new museum function.
