Published on the occasion of the exhibition, this volume traces Giovanni Anselmo’s career from the 1960s to his last works. This broad account spans the artist’s career and combines images, essays, a critical biography and a selected bibliography. The fulcrum of the publication is the large section devoted to the works in which the photographs are flanked by the artist’s writings: statements, brief comments and descriptions of the works project the reader into Giovanni Anselmo’s universe, a world dominated by forces, materials and “situations of energy”. Great attention is devoted to the volume’s iconographic apparatus: about 150 images, including installation views, historical and more recent photos, and author’s shots that reconstruct Anselmo’s career and his interventions in the various exhibition spaces.
Closing the catalogue is a rich critical anthology: several interviews by Italian and international critics outline the portrait of an artist far removed from any form of categorisation.
