Elisabetta Catalano. Between Image and Performance

Edited by Laura Cherubini, Aldo Enrico Ponis
Bilingual Italian/English edition
Manfredi Editions, Imola 96 pages

The sixth volume in the MAXXI Arte Collection Focus Series, the book, published on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name, describes the photographer’s work and in particular her focus on the performances of 1970s’ artists. In addition to an introductory note by Bartolomeo Pietromarchi, the catalogue includes a text by Aldo Ponis on the historical value of the archive and one by Laura Cherubini describing Elisabetta Catalano’s training, the cultural environment in which she worked and the historical significance of the performances she documented. From Joseph Beuys to Fabio Mauri, from Vettor Pisani to Cesare Tacchi: photographic sequences, documentation images and specimens, some of them previously unpublished, reconstruct the exceptional historical and cultural value of Elisabetta Catalano’s works.
