Published on the occasion of the monographic exhibition at MAXXI, this volume is a precious artist’s book entirely conceived by Daido Moriyama with live images, historical texts by the author, an interview and essays that delve into his work.
Shop windows, animals, street corners hidden from view, illuminated signs, seemingly insignificant domestic interiors, as well as stolen faces of men and women living in the city give life to blurred, grainy and out-of-focus images that follow one another with swirling rhythm within the publication: “As if to show what happens when something goes wrong. The result is a vibrant tale of contemporary Japan because, says Moriyama: “Taking street photos is nothing more than a game of chance played out on the chessboard of necessity. So I continue to roam the city with my camera, patrolling the streets with an animal instinct and capturing the chaos in which we are immersed.
Enclosed in an elegant hardback slipcase, the volume, signed by the artist, includes a limited edition photographic print.
